Top 11 Keto Vegan & Vegetarian Recipes

Sticking to a keto diet can be tough at times for even the most flexible omnivore. In an effort to hit the very high fat requirements needed to reach ketosis, most ketoers consume plenty of dairy, fatty meats and eggs for a fatty boost, but not everyone wants to go down this route.

For vegans, who aren’t consuming any animal products, the keto diet can pose a particular challenge and needs a little lateral thinking to get their fat intake high and carbs low. This post will give you 11 keto friendly vegan dinners to add to your repertoire and benefit from the low carb, high fat way of eating!

In contrast to the typical, animal based keto diet with it’s high fat levels, a typical vegan diet often consists of a significant portion of grains and high calorie carbohydrates, often with a high carbohydrate to fat ratio.

If we’re going to adapt a vegan diet to be keto friendly we need to really up our intake of a selection of higher fat vegetables etc. and cut down on carb heavy ones.

Avocados and nuts are great sources of healthy fats to include along with nut and olive oils, and coconut (For more avocado recipes try this round up for some great ideas).

This dish can be put together in under 10 minutes!

Top 11 Keto Vegan & Vegetarian Recipes

And here we are! We’ve spent ages scouring the web, testing, tasting and testing again – and we’ve come up with our TOP 10 VEGETARIAN KETO RECIPES!

To even be considered for this list of veggie exclusives, recipes have got to be quick, tasty and naturally vegetarian and suitable for the ketogenic diet.

Generally, those on the ketogenic diet try to consume to no more than 20g-50g carbs per day. Usually, after a couple of days – or up to three or four days – you’ll enter ‘ketosis’.

This is when the body starts to break down fat and protein for energy – as it suddenly has no (or few) carbs to use, as it normally would.

Keto diets have been shown to be quite effective for short-term weight-loss, and may help prevent cancer and heart disease, though more research is needed.

However – it is not always easy to maintain – especially for vegetarians. The keto diet tends to lean very heavily on meat and fish – vegetarian keto recipes are few and far between.

We would always advise speaking to a doctor before embarking on any type of new diet or lifestyle.

So without further ado –

A vegetarian keto breakfast isn’t always easy to come by – well, it wasn’t anyway. Now it certainly is! Our faves are:
